Assignment 1: Project Proposal: Initiating & Planning

Summary of the Project

This is about a startup eatery whose aim would be the creation and distribution of coffee to the clients of Minnesota State. In addition, these products would be beneficial to the health of individuals as well as facilitate the growth of coffee, that is, the name of the company. We will discuss the diverse strategies used to make this company fast growing and better in its field as well as the target market of the company. In addition, we will calculate the margin of safety and our projected sale outcome for the next five years.

In addition, the project is expected to be commercial which gets based on the creation of profitable businesses for the shareholders as well as owners. Before the conduction and completion of the project, the consumer market of Minnesota State is supposed get assessed.

The Project Objectives

Some of the main objectives of the startup project are:

· Finding members of staff as well as training them

· Getting a license from the local regulations

· Finding a suitable site for the Minnesota eatery

The Project Goals

· The main aim of this project is establishing the eatery Minnesota State

· Have loyal consumers as well maintain the existing ones.

· Having several eateries around the state in the long run.

Key Stakeholders

According to research, shareholders are an essential part of the augmentation of any company (Shulha, et.al, 2019). That being said, some of the crucial stakeholders include:

· Government personnel

· The local populace of Minnesota who are supposed to be either psychologically or physically affected by the project.

· Lastly, any stakeholders who are to be on board with their stock.

Key Customers

Clients are essential because they are the main foundation of any business; as a result, this is supposed to be the most basic element (Bocconcelli, et.al, 2018). The key clients for the eatery are:

· The tourists who visit Minnesota

· Some of the institutions for contractual purposes

· Both upper and middle class individuals who are able to afford the coffee.

Deliverables or Milestones for the Project

Deliverables are intangible or tangible services or goods that get produced subsequent to a project that are supposed to be delivered to a client (Jaber, et.al, 2018). These include:

· Redecorating or building the selected location

· On governmental regulations, a license would be important for the startup in Minnesota

· The main deliverable will be finding a suitable location for the eatery.

High-Level Timeline and Deadlines

· Our baseline is to open within 6 months of the planning

· Hiring and training staff should be undertaken before 3 months are over.

· A license is essential before the end of the 2nd month of opening the eatery

· A location is essential to set up this eatery.

Overall Cost

The estimated overall cost of the company has been valued at around $500,000 including a franchise fee of about $ 420,000. The other costs that are remaining are supposed to be as a result of licensing of the eatery, renting the business place and other miscellaneous activities.

Non- Staffing

This point includes the purchase of kitchen equipment, consumable supplies from the suppliers, a computer for the counter, furniture for the eatery and kitchen equipment.

Staffing

The eatery will initially require a staff of around 8 individuals. 1 person as the cashier; 3 people outside the kitchen and 4 cashiers.

Assignment 2: Project Proposal – WBS & Project Schedule

Introduction

The project to open the eatery coffee restaurant was an idea I previously chose due to my interest in fast food joints. The coffee business venture will provide breakfast, lunch, and evening coffee to people and tourists of Minnesota State and government institutions with a specialty on offering fresh and purely ground coffee drinks.

In this paper, I analyze the Work-breakdown structure (WBS) of this project, which divides the main work of opening eatery coffee into smaller activities, which acts as a guide to accomplish the desired results. In this, we look at the business idea of the creation and distribution of eatery coffee in Minnesota State. The WBS shows the breakdown of core activities before the grand opening of the eatery coffee in Minnesota State. These activities are supposed to be scheduled for smooth implementation of the events and ensure the time efficiency of 6 months is achieved.

The core activities include deciding where the capitalization of the business, the furniture to be bought, site location, kitchen designing, wall paintings and decoration, recruitment and training of staff and ordering the supplies, stock, buying of equipment, utensils, and computers.

Olivera Tadijin

Competitive Strategy

5/7/2020

Discussion Post 1

The first chapter of the book “Strategic Management: Creating Competitive Advantages” explains the definition of strategic management as well as four key elements of it. It also explains the importance of social and environmental sustainability and how it can improve a corporation’s innovation strategy. According to the book, there are two perspectives of leadership: external control perspective, and romantic view. The difference is that the organization’s success is determined based of different forces. External control perspective is determined on external forces such as economic downturns while on the other hand romantic view has the leader that is the key force to the organization, for example Steve Jobs. The first stage of strategic management process is analysis in which are determined strategic goals, mission, vision, strategic objectives, internal and external environment. The next stage is making decisions such as what industries should the company target or how to compete with other organization. The last stage is actions and implementations of strategy where the necessary resources are allocated as well as brining designed strategies to reality.

Effective and appropriate corporate governance is the requirement of strategic management and it is the relationship between various participants in determining the direction. Shareholders, management, and the board of directors (BOD) are the primary participants. Board of directors are the elected representatives of the owners and they ensure to create an effective and engaged board, address shareholder activism, provide proper managerial rewards, and establish external control. Stakeholder groups are employees, suppliers, creditors, customers, government and community. They have two views which are zero sum and symbiosis. Zero sum is the view of stakeholder management where stakeholders compete for attention and resources. On the other side, symbiosis is where stakeholders are dependent upon each other for success and well being.

The example of employee empowerment within an organization that I came across was the Walt Disney Company. This company is largest and most successful media and entertainment corporations in the world. Disney is famous for hiring the best in the field and letting them do their best. But sometimes, even in other companies, managers hire a great person that stands out and sometimes it results in poor performance in which case the company suffers. Also, many companies nowadays talk about empowering their employees when in fact many employees feel very un-empowered. One of the main objectives at Disney is to exceed expectations as Walt inspired and empowered people to give more than what is asked from them. Even today, the employees at Disney always do what is necessary to meet the expectations of guests. For example, if a child buys an ice cream and drops it a few seconds later, the employee is empowered to give another ice cream to the child without a charge. In this case, it employee empowerment doesn’t mean that they should give free away things for free, but it simply means that the company allows employees to take care of their customers such as the company takes care of their employees. That’s why there is a positive outcome for both customers and employees- customers are happy and keep coming back while employees are happy with their workplace which attract more people to apply. How effective can anti-pollution initiatives be when they are focused on countries that are not necessarily the countries that have pollution problems?

TWO URGENT SHORT RESPONSE, PLEASE DO NOT TYPE A PAPER AND PLEASE READ MY REQUEST.

Question 1:

Technology is not always a positive

This week’s discussion is a bit of a continuation of last week’s discussion, and for good reason. The benefits of technology to humans are almost too numerous to list. As with anything, there are downsides to that advancement.

Think of some as useful as plastic. Plastic has been around for well over 400 years…even earlier if we consider rudimentary plastics. The use of plastics have revolutionized life on earth in ways that are too lengthy to detail. However, we also know that plastics are not that easy to dispose of. They are toxic to produce, toxic to destroy, and take years to decompose if at all. Yet, we could not survive on earth even remotely close to the way we do without plastics.

Plastic is just one example of a technology that has provided revolutionary benefits to humans and even our ability to care for the planet, yet it is also a pollution threat and a significant one. In case you have not heard, recent discoveries have hinted at the ability to decompose plastics and reuse them almost entirely. The technology is promising, but remains to be seen if it is as viable as it appears.

Describe a misuse of technology that you have observed within the global community. Provide examples and feel free to expand upon the negative sides of technology that you mentioned in last week’s post.

Question 2:

Pollution—The solution to a very tricky and misleading issue

Have you ever been to another country? Have you ever been to a developing country? One of the things we notice in ALL countries is pollution. Of course, some countries have a lot more than others. This can be simple litter like cigarette butts in the sidewalks to heaps of trash poured out onto the streets. While all countries have some level of pollution, there are many countries where pollution is rampant and….wait for it…even culturally acceptable.

As with all things, there is a lot of fake and misleading information out there for us to absorb. One of these has to do with air pollution. Remember how the United States refused to sign any air pollution treaty and then took a lot of heat from other countries for doing this? Well, there is a perfectly logical reason for this: the treaty that has nothing to do with pollution! There is a lot going on here than meets the eye…

Consider the following:

• Pollution is usually measured as the amount of pollution per person. What this means is that you can have a lot of pollution, but if you also have a lot of people, then your pollution statistic appears lower than it should be. What would happen if we measured pollution as pollution per unit of production?

• Why do some countries that appear to not pollute a lot seem to get criticized for polluting when other countries are obvious polluters and seem to get a free pass?

• How effective can anti-pollution initiatives be when they are focused on countries that are not necessarily the countries that have pollution problems?
